Deoxit Shield S-Series is recommended for NEW metal surfaces, usually in the manufacturing process. It is also ideal where high degrees of pollution (sulfur, salts, acids, etc.) are present. DeoxitShield should be applied to a clean surface, after using Deoxit contact cleaner or other cleaning method. For reference, DeoxitShield has 0% cleaning action.
Step one, pre-clean surface using Deoxit D-Series contact cleaner or other cleaning methods (ultrasonics). Any contacts and connectors that conduct electricity are candidates. Deoxit cleans the surface, removes oxidation & suldes, and leaves a light, microscopic layer of protection. Refer to Bulletin C-D100.
Step two involves applying either Deoxit Gold G-Series or DeoxitShield S-Series. Both are companion products to Deoxit, and add longer lasting protection. The determining factor in the selection of Deoxit Gold or Deoxit Shield, is the environment to which the contact and connector will be exposed. For most indoor uses, DeoxitGold is the product of choice. Deoxit Gold not only keeps your contacts and connectors in excellent condition, it improves their performance. It is ideal for gold plated surfaces. For "harsh environments" (eg. pollutants, salt air, high humidity, outdoor use, extreme temperatures, etc.) use Deoxit Shield. Deoxit Shield provides maximum protection for your metal contacts and connectors.
Deoxit Shield's unique properties allow it to work on stationary and moving contacts and connectors with similar or dissimilar metals. Even when a treated connector mates with an untreated one, DeoxitShield will migrate and coat the other. When connectors are separated, Deoxit Shield will re-coat the exposed metal surfaces.
Deoxit Shield's advanced formula contains preservatives, conductivity enhancers, arcing and RFI inhibitors and anti-tarnishing compounds that signicantly increase the performance and reliability of electrical components and equipment.
Deoxit Shield restores the contact's integrity and leaves a thin (organic) layer that coats and protects the metals. Special additives prevent the dissolved oxides from reattaching, keeping them in suspension and allowing them to be easily dispersed by the mechanical action of the contact.
